At Aurora Flight Sciences, we design, build, and fly advanced aircraft and enabling technologies from concept to reality. We are searching for a talented and self-motivated Humans and Autonomy Group Lead to help us create the future of flight. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following:
- The Humans and Autonomy (H&A) Group conceptualizes and delivers new robot/autonomy systems that improve human effectiveness, total system safety, and/or user experience. Efforts include research programs in new methods of human-robot interaction, prototype programs to demonstrate new autonomy concepts in real flight, and efforts to mature product roadmaps with advanced H&A technology concepts. The ideal candidate can contribute broadly to the complete autonomy development process and brings creativity and expertise in human-robot interaction. The group lead grows Aurora's capacity in Humans and Autonomy in the following ways: a.) lead technically by example: excel at conceptualizing and making autonomous systems with excellent humans and autonomy, b.) lead others: build a great team of humans and autonomy engineers and researchers, c.) lead Aurora's technical vision: provide oversite and guidance to all autonomy programs and proposal efforts.
- Masters Degree in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical/computer science engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Masters-level research experience in human factors, human-machine interaction, or similar area; or equivalent experience.
- Five+ years experience conducting humans-focused research and development.
- Demonstrated success in a highly collaborative environment with excellent English written and oral communications skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to positively motivate others. The best measure of an effective manager is a high-performing team that consistently demonstrates esprit de corps. + Experience writing and winning proposals.
- Ability to collaborate with external academic/research partners.
- Excellent ability in hardware an software rapid prototyping, including common machine learning frameworks.
- Must be a US Person (US Citizen or US Permanent Resident/Green Card Holder).
- Ability to formulate and communicate a complete technology roadmap to maximize impact of humans and autonomy technology on the aerospace industry over the next decade.
- Ability to formulate certification plan for new humans and autonomy technology.
- Ability to apply AI/ML onto real hardware systems.
- Ability to develop and deploy image-processing, embedded systems, ROS, OMS, or FACE open-systems architectures.
- Ability to develop and execute hardware test plan.
- Knowledge of commercial and military and UAV operations.
- DoD Clearance.
- Not a remote position, must be able to commute to the office weekly.
