THE POSITION

Join our team and be a part of an exciting opportunity at the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's Bureau of Operations. We are looking for a talented computer science or data analytics student intern to help us analyze traffic safety management programs. Come be a part of our recognized innovator in the field of Traffic Safety Management and Operations Performance Program!

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will assist with traffic management systems work such as performing data analysis, assist in the development of graphics and reports, assist in the development of scope and requirements for new analysis tools, and perform quality assurance work related to the 511PA, traffic camera video sharing system, and Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS). You will be able to gain valuable experience in Information Technology, Geology, or any other scientific or technical related field.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg.
  • Some positions may require travel

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Students who are interested in a PennDOT internship must meet all of the following requirements:

  • QUALIFICATIONS

    Internship Requirements:
    • Must be a high school graduate or college student enrolled (or intending to enroll) on a full-time or part-time basis in a 2- or 4- year post-secondary education program for the fall semester.
    • You must be in good academic standing (as defined by a GPA of 2.0 or higher).
    • You must be at least 18 years of age.
    • Special Requirement: Certain positions require verification of a valid Pennsylvania Class C Driver's License


Additional Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

Preferred Majors (Not required):

  • Computer Science
  • Data Analysis
