Job/Internship Description

The Education Equity Intern will support the Workforce Transformation Director and the Director, K12 Education Initiatives, by researching issues and trends in equity and diversity and STEM+M education, drafting presentations and research summaries, developing fact sheets, and providing administrative support for meetings and focus groups.

The Transforming the Health Care Workforce unit focuses on the education, professional development, and wellness of future health care workers along with creating viable pathways for historically excluded groups to enter the health care profession. We endeavor to transform the health care workforce into one committed to providing equitable, high quality, culturally responsive health care to all. To achieve that, we need to cultivate equitable access to rigorous, high-quality education across the full educational continuum. A key element of this work is AAMC's Strategic Action Plan 4, which is designed to significantly increase the diversity of medical school applicants and matriculants.

Development Opportunities:

* Gain exposure to issues related to access, equity, and diversity in STEM+M education
* Increase skills in researching and writing on topics related to diversity and equity in public education
* Develop a working knowledge of the foundational competencies for future physicians and their application in K12 education
* Apply principles and theory learned in the classroom in a professional environment
* Increase awareness of issues in education policy
* Refine presentation and public speaking skills
* Learn about the internal workings of and career opportunities in a nonprofit higher education association


* Write fact sheets, contribute to reports, and develop presentations about local efforts to increase access and equity to STEM+M in K12 education
* Conduct literature reviews and research trends in educational access and equity and career and technical education
* Support event planning for upcoming meetings, conferences, and focus groups
* Some data collection and entry
* Attend meetings and webinars to learn about the challenges First-Generation, Black/African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Latinx, and other historically marginalized communities face in accessing and completing college and pursuing careers in research, medicine, and other health professions


* Undergraduate students who have completed their sophomore year and who are majoring in one of the following fields: Elementary or Secondary Education, Higher Education, STEM/STEAM or Health Education, Health Professions Education, Educational Leadership, Educational Administration, or Education Policy
* Demonstrated commitment to or interest in advancing diversity and equity
* A self-starter with excellent attention to detail
* Strong writing and analytical skills
* Strong oral and aural communication skills
* Intellectual curiosity and a desire to learn
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
* Strategic thinking and problem-solving
* Ability to meet deadlines and integrate feedback
* Must be comfortable working remotely and asynchronously. Previous experience with zoom, teams, and other hybrid work programs a plus

Compensation Grade Range and Mid-Point

Grade Range:$18.00 - $26.00/ Grade Mid-Point:$22.00

The above annual compensation range and mid-point are general guidelines. For candidates who meet the criteria, the AAMC's compensation philosophy is to target the midpoint of the salary range. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, as well as internal equity, market, and business considerations.

If a bachelor's degree is required, related work experience may be substituted in some positions. One year of college course work at an accredited institution is equivalent to one year of related work experience.
