Under the direction of the Manager of Public safety or their designee, the Public Safety Supervisor performs a variety of duties to ensure the welfare of patients, employees, and visitors; protects grounds, buildings, equipment, and supplies of the hospital. Responsibilities include a full range of supervisory duties including directing work, training/coaching, corrective action, and performance evaluation.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Must have knowledge of and enforce all hospital, Public Safety dept. policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
  • 2. Educates public safety officers in any new policies, procedures, equipment, or techniques.
  • 3. Responsible for supervising and directing the daily duties of Public Safety staff.
  • 4. Participates in the development of security plans, policies, and recommendations to ensure the safety and of staff, patients, visitors, and property.
  • 5. Proactively controls entrance and access to employees, vendors, contractors, and others conducting business within the organization
  • 6. Responds to situations to control, defuse, and manage confrontational, aggressive, or threatening behaviors through intervention that utilizes effective communication.
  • 7. Employs excellent customer relations and communications skills in dealing with employees, patients visitors, vendors, and contractors
  • 8. Actively seeks to discover and create ways of doing things better using resources and skills in an innovative manner
  • 9. Listens and is receptive to different ideas and opinions while solving problems.
  • 10. Consistently seeks opportunities for coordination and collaboration, working together as a team; displays an ability to adjust as needed to accomplish the common goal
  • 11. Reports to work to conduct shift turnover such as communicating pertinent information to the oncoming shift
  • 12. Acts as a liaison between the Public Safety team and other hospital departments
  • 13. Ensures all reports are properly completed and done in a timely manner.
  • 14. Sets professional standard for the Public Safety Team. Employs excellent customer relations and communications skills in dealing with patients, employees, visitors, vendors, and contractors
  • 15. Reports directly to and works with the Manager of Public Safety regarding scheduling, job performance of officers, safety concerns and the general operation of the department.
  • 16. Responsible for contacting the Public Safety Leadership and/or making decisions in his absence regarding emergency situations.
  • 17. Responsible for the proper staffing of shifts such as filling vacancies as required.
  • 18. Assists the Manager of Public Safety with yearly performance evaluations.
  • 19. Responsible for the training of all employees. Including but not limited to orientation and training documentation.
  • 20. Patrols Lawrence and Memorial Hospital grounds and associated off sites to assure Public Safety Officers are performing duties appropriately.
  • 21. Maintains proficiency in and certification for use of firearms.
  • 22. Performs other duties assigned.
  • 23. Meets performance expectations for Customer Service, Teamwork, Resource Utilization, and Staff and Self Development as outlined in performance review.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Minimum Of A High School Diploma Or Ged Graduate

EXPERIENCE

Minimum of one year Security, Law enforcement or Military supervisory experience required. Knowledgeable of security operations procedures principles and techniques, quality customer relations techniques and concepts. Proficient in the use of security and access control devices, personal computer hardware equipment, other electronic devices to include industry related software applications.

LICENSURE

Connecticut State Security Permit required upon completion of training as allowed by Public Act 18-20. Valid driver's license, and acceptable driving record. CT. 'Class 1' endorsement must be obtained prior to carrying a sidearm.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Must pass a full background check by the Police Department of the Officers town of residence, as well as a complete a Medical and Psychological evaluation by the Employee Health Department of Lawrence + Memorial Hospital.
