Description

GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

A full-time research technician position is immediately available in the laboratory of Dr. Ryan Corcoran at Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center. The Corcoran lab is involved in investigating new and effective therapies for gastrointestinal cancers, mainly colorectal, pancreatic and liver cancers. Our group is interested in elucidating novel mechanisms of resistance to targeted cancer therapeutics such as kinase inhibitors or immune checkpoint inhibitors (Ryan MB et al. Cell Reports 2022, Tian J et al. Nature Medicine 2023, Fece de la Cruz F et al. Cancer Discovery 2024, Tanaka N et al. Cancer Discovery 2024).

We seek a highly motivated individual with a strong interest in pursuing a future academic career in science or medicine. This is an ideal position for a recent graduate who wants to gain an intense research experience before pursuing graduate school. The candidate will take responsibility in basic science and translational research projects under close supervision of post-doctoral research fellows in the lab, as well as Dr. Ryan Corcoran (PI).

Our current technicians have various roles within the lab. You will be introduced and trained on the following techniques, depending on the departmental need. We encourage you to apply, regardless of prior experience in these specific laboratory techniques:

  • Generation and maintenance of organoid cultures from patient biopsies.
  • Tissue culture techniques: maintenance of mouse/human cell lines in culture, cryopreservation, drug treatments, plasmid transfections, lentiviral transduction.
  • Perform standard molecular biology techniques (Western blotting, PCR, cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, CRISPR).
  • Interpretation of experimental results.
  • Interest on establishing new and optimizing existing techniques in the lab.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor's degree in a biological science required.

EXPERIENCE

  • Prior research experience in a molecular biology laboratory is preferred (internships, rotations, undergrad lab experience, etc.
  • Previous experience on maintaining cell lines in culture is desirable.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Self-motivated, excited about conducting research in cancer biology.
  • The candidate must be reliable, meticulous in record keeping, and able to work independently, as well as with a team.
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills.
