About the Role

This NSE Support Engineer is responsible for maintenance and technical support of Nautical Systems Enterprise (NSE/NS5) vessel management software application from ABS Wavesight (formerly ABS Nautical Systems). This individual should possess knowledge in Crewing and Payroll, Maintenance and Purchasing, Replication, General Data and System Administration modules. This individual oversees minor / major NSE upgrades, including software upgrades, patches, hot fixes, etc. This individual oversees and resolves all replication issues between NSE central and the ships in a timely manner. This individual will work with office and shipboard users, as well as the software provider ABS Wavesight to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues. In addition, this individual must provide technical solutions to business requirements and make enhancements, including reporting solutions.

What you'll do:

  • Understand the support issues and provide timely solutions to ensure and maintain business continuity.
  • Effectively coordinate with multiple business teams, analyze, and understand business problems/requirements and provide technical solutions - including vessel operations & engineering, purchasing, marine personnel & vessel payroll, SQES, accounting & AP.
  • Translate customer requirements into technical documents and implement the solutions.
  • Effectively analyze new software releases, patches, and hot fixes to plan the minor / major upgrades.
  • Coordinate with multiple technical teams on the application interfaces and support the interfaces.
  • Enforce best practices and consistently deliver high quality product.
  • Enforce IT related SOX controls and audits requirements for internal and external audit.
  • Write efficient and testable code, build reusable components, and create code documentation.
  • Implement security and data protection measures, ensuring the software meets industry and regulatory standards.
  • Troubleshoot, debug software components quickly in support of hotfix demands as well as operate against a planned development schedule.
  • Assist with overseeing any NSE related special projects.
  • Assist with NSE data warehouse queries and reporting requests.

You have these skills:

  • Experience with the following NSE modules with an understanding of the business processes and business user needs and translating those business needs into technical support and solutions [Crewing and Payroll, Maintenance and Purchasing, Replication, General Data and System Admin]
  • Integration with financial and accounting systems, enterprise HR and ERP systems, payroll tax payments and reporting and union contributions.
  • In-depth Knowledge of Replication process between NSE Central and ships.
  • How replication files get generated how are they shared between central and ships and how they update the central DB and ships DB.
  • How to cut the DB for ships and install them on the ships.
  • Thorough knowledge on the replication issues and how to resolve them.
  • Good understanding of the NSE Data model, NSE minor/major upgrades.
  • Good understanding of usability of NSE on Ships for different users.
  • Strong MySQL and MS SQL Server experience.
  • Strong problem solving, analyzing, and debugging skills.

And these qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Experience with ABS Nautical Systems vessel management software.
  • Experience working in shipping industry or working with vessel operations management teams.
  • Proven ability to use best practices by developing reusable code component, driving coding standards, performing code reviews, and providing key process improvement recommendations.
  • Strong understanding of version control tools.
  • Strong database and SQL programming experience - MySQL and MS SQL Server.

Extra credit if you have:

  • Experience implementing cloud-based solutions in AWS a plus.

The annual salary range for this position in California is $101,600 - $138,200. The salary offered will depend upon qualifications and other operational considerations.
